Happiness. That’s what every man seeks, a human trait you might say.
We are faced with large groups of people, sometimes fleeing in search of a living. Eva takes people out of the group and gives them a face.
With sponge and oil Eva paints on large canvases the portraits of these people with all their emotion. The portraits come right in because we all recognize something (of emotion) in the faces of these portraits (people).
Working with a sponge instead of the paintbrush gives a light touch to the paint. From afar it looks like a photograph but coming closer you see the canvas through the thin skin of oil paint. Eva continues the tradition of Dutch portrait painters in her own way.
